P-Hole
After our show in Portland a bunch of us searched for food until we found a line of food carts, one of them being a Viatnamese spot called Pho Le. I got this little duo of bbq pork sandwich and shrimp salad rolls. Viatnamese bbq pork sandwiches aren’t like American ones; the pork is kind of sweet and served with carrots, onions, cilantro and some kind of sweet sauce. Pretty good. The salad...

Voodoo Doughnuts
Portland, Oregon is home to bad weather, high property taxes and a spot called Voodoo Doughnuts. They serve up the most ridiculous doughnuts I’ve ever seen by far. I treated myself to (or maybe destroyed my insides with) a few of their creations. That guy on the right is called Ol’ Dirty Bastard. It’s a normal raised ring doughnut with chocolate, oreos and peanut butter and...

The Best Burrito Spot in San Francisco
If you’re from the Bay Area then you probably have your own favorite burrito spot. And if you do you probably defend it fiercely when the topic comes up. Set Your Goals’ favorite spot is by far Taqueria Cancun. After every show we play in SF we have to go there and we usually drag along bands playing with us just so they can experience its greatness. There’s 3 Cancun’s in...

Little Skillet
The next couple of entries are a bit different than normal because they aren’t about places on the road, but rather in San Francisco, the city I was born in and live right next to. But I was on tour while eating at them so it counts! Also, my awesome girlfriend Alison took the pictures for these places with her super sweet new camera so the food looks even better! You should be stoked. ...

Barbecue Heaven
Where I’m from in California good barbecue spots are few and far between, and they’re usually pretty expensive. But in Texas, forget about it…there’s good, cheap barbecue to be had all over. The other night in Austin Junior and I tried out a little cart spot on a street corner called Barbecue Heaven. Quite the presumptuous name for sure, but they ended up delivering the...

Juan In A Million
In Austin, Texas there’s place that was featured on Food Network’s Man vs. Food (a show that is a big influence on me and my gastroNOMical journeys) called Juan In A Million where they serve up a dish called the Don Juan. It’s pretty simple, just eggs, cheese, bacon and potatoes piled on top of flour tortillas. What’s notable about this dish is the size. I won’t...

Premanti Brothers
That there is a pastrami sandwich from Premanti Brothers in Ft. Lauderdale. At Premanti’s they put cole slaw and fries on their sandwich. The result is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. This is one of my favorite places I’ve ever Road Nom’ed, and I will always go back here whenever I’m in the area. It’s so good!

Cuban Nom Crisis
South Florida is far from my favorite place to be, but I do love how readily available Cuban food is there. I’m not too versed in it but what I have tried I enjoyed. We went to the La Granja in West Palm Beach and got treated to some pretty good meaty dishes. I had a dish called Lomo, which was sauteed beef, onions and tomatoes with fries and some yellow rice on the side. This was the...

Coney Island Sandwich Shop
The Coney Island Sandwich Shop in St. Petersburg, Florida is a place that likes to stick to its ways. The menu has barely changed ever, in fact the last thing they added to the menu was Barq’s root beer. Seriously. Printed underneath Coney Island Sandwich Shop is “is pleased to announced the arrival of the first new item added to our menu in 50 years…Barq’s Root...

The All-American Diner Experience
If you live in America you’ve been to diner. They’re everywhere, and they’re pretty much a staple of the American dining experience. Some are better than others, and they’ve become so hip in certain areas chances are you can find one run by a bunch of 20-something’s covered in tattoos serving up a menu that’s probably half vegetarian or even vegan. Not the...

Disco makes a comeback at the Broadway Diner
Baltimore, you sure did provide the Noms when I visited you. In the morning I had sinfully good Cap’n Crunch french toast and at night I feasted at the Broadway Diner on a ridiculous concoction called the Disco Burger. In case you can’t tell that there burger is loaded up with disco fries (fries covered with cheese and gravy…pretty much like poutine). It was pretty outrageous....

Healthiest Breakfast ever at Blue Moon
So at about 7 in the morning in Baltimore our friend/security/pookie bear/full time rager Fubu took Junior and I to a little place called the Blue Moon Cafe. He said their cinnamon rolls were pure Road Nom material so I of course was obliged to check it out. The waitress told us that the rolls would take about half an hour to make but that we needed to try something she called Cap’n Crunch...
